“The cast sizzles, particularly Amy Coleman as the ailing stars, raunchy, wisecracking ex-wife”.
Michael kuchwara, the Associated press

“This critic was so impressed and excited by actress Amy Coleman’s work last fall that another visit seemed to be in order” Dan Isaac, Backstage Magazine

“Coleman’s abrasive Vickie is an original creation” Jay Reiner, The Hollywood Reporter

“Amy Coleman has a unique talent-the gift of a few outstanding actors. Amy, almost always under inspiration is an actress who surprises with the variety of her adaptation”. Sonia Moore author of The Stanislavski System : The Professional Training of an Actor.

Amy's love of theater was first awakened by the head of her High School Drama Department, Maurice Blanc.

Here she is at left as Pirate Jenny in The Brecht-Weil Musical Three Penny Opera, in her Senior Year of High School at Saint Anne's in Brooklyn, NY

Theater For The New City has become a New York Institution. It is dedicated to providing a forum for new works and totally committed to community based and oriented theatre. It's annually produced Street Theatre does just that: takes theatre into the streets in neighborhoods all over New York. In it's current home at 10th Street and First Avenue, it houses no less than 5 theatres, and usually has at least three shows running. One of those theatres is in the basement, and walking down those stairs one descends into what is without doubt one of the most unique theatre environments in the city, and it was down in that basement that Broken Bohemian Hearts in Alphabet City was produced.

In foreground above, Nana Nilson, choreographer, dancer, actor. Just peeking through there is Lizbeth Iversen, performance artist, dancer, actor. On the right, actor and dancer, Jeff Paul.

How this strange combination of Grand Guignol, Cabaret, Murder Mystery, and Musical Theatre came about is a long story. Miraculously, it actually ran for sixteen performances. Not only did it run to overflowing houses, but people would wait for the inevitable walkouts at intermission (we typically lost about twenty people a show with comments like "disgusting"... etc.) so that they could be seated for the second act.

The House of Nancy Dunn, another Musical, this time about an aspiring Television food show host, The Frugal Gourmet, who is actually the rampaging Candy Apple serial killer. Co-authored by Steve Weisberg, who as you may know from the Bands page was a member of the original All Night Thumpers.

First produced at The Common Basis Theatre, it went on to La Mama a year later. The shots below are from the production at The Common Basis.
